Kaukapakapa Structure Plan (updated 19 January 2012.)
As most residents will have heard, the Structure Plan was adopted by the former Rodney District Council back in September 2010. Since that time we have gone through amalgamation into the new Auckland Council. In late January 2011 several attempts were made to track down the personnel whose responsibility it is to progress the plan. We have now achieved this and we have been advised that the Kaukapakapa Plan is on the list to proceed to the next stage. The Annual Plan was out for submissions which closed on the 31st March 2011.
Karra is continuing to make submissions to the various processes to form the Auckland plan. As more informations comes to hand it will be published on this site.
River Cleanup
Though it is hard to visualize, the river actually has a rocky bottom and in the past it was a clear flowing stream.
- We need to revitalize the river and its environment so all can enjoy exploring its banks and habitat (KARRA is having ongoing discussions with RDC regarding cleaning of the river).
- We have identified a possible all-tide boat ramp location and associated possible passive park within walking distance of the Village.
- Cleaning the river is important for ongoing flood mitigation and essential to future public usage.
Update March 2011: (Posted 23 March 2011.)
In 2009 and 2010 a small amount of work was done on clearance of the Kaukapakapa River.
While the work that has been done has not completely alleviated the flooding of the area it has had a very positive effect. Prior to 2009 regular flooding occurred cutting off the school, State Highway 16 and the Fire Brigade.
It is vital that the work that has been started continue and work commence to control the mangrove growth that is occurring since the river has been cleared.
